Steve’s absolutely right, this is the best use of 20 minutes of your time this year. I wanted to share it with you, watch it and reflect.

Interesting. Something troubles me though. If a child went through school without being given opportunities to be creative, would their lives lack creativity? I doubt it. If a child went through school without being given the opportunites to develop literacy and numeracy would their lives lack those things?

Hey James, I just finished listening to this in the background and thanks for posting it. I really liked the story about the dancer. It's amazing what talent has probably been lost due to over-drugging children. D:

Good story and a good recommendation. Whilst videos are informative I find they take a lot of time - 20 minutes. As the commenter above I tend to listen to them in the background but then probably miss out on 25% of the information.

Very cool vid. In fact, I've yet to watch one of the TED talks videos that hasn't been a real eye opener, there are just so many of them in so many different fields - would be awesome to get the chance to actually attend one time!

Awesome presentation. Some schools seem to just be conveyor belts spitting out mindless competitive corporate cannon fodder. This needs to change.

I think the parents have a lot to do with this as well, if they encourage creativity at home then the kids should be fine.

I have four children and I think sometimes schools are guilty of stifling creativity. I think this is particularly true of primary schools. What gets me is that if you try to provide your kids with opportunities to persue their creative side out of school, and so enhance their education, the school gets sniffy if a bit of homework gets missed now and then. One of my kids got the chance to perform for a week with a visiting Russian ballet company and the school gave him a hard time cos one piece of homework got missed.Unbelieveable.

Besides frozen facial muscles, the other signs of tetanus contain weakness, irritability, muscle cramps, soreness, and difficulty swallowing. Occasionally, the muscle contractions could be so strong that they trigger broken bones. Other instances, the muscles of the respiratory system might be affected, resulting within the loss of breathing capability.

Surely parents should take some responsibility for ensuring their children retain some creative capability? It may well be true that schools no longer encourage creativity in the way they perhaps should, but there is plenty of time outside school hours where children's creativity can be developed.

I love his views. But he is so right. Unfortunately, I rather see the problem in the approach to dividing education into subjects. I think concentrating on building the core abilities and then adapting their utilitisation to the subjects would be way more cross.
